RUSSIAN DIALECTS

Standard Russian is the official language of several countries outside of Russia including Ukraine, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Belarus, Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan. It is also a second language for many people in Finland, Estonia and Latvia among others.

Our Russian linguists aim to not only translate your content correctly, but also to help you connect with your target audience through a clear and mutual understanding of the local language being used.

As with many foreign languages, the Russian language has evolved into various regional dialects. These dialects are typically classified as belonging to one of 3 regions/groups –Northern Russia, Southern Russia or Central Russia, each of which has a uniquely distinctive style of grammar and pronunciation.

USA Studios has native speaking Russian translators (linguists) worldwide including in Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Estonia and in the former Soviet Republics such as Estonia and Latvia. We support the following regional dialects to meet your Russian to English or English to Russian translation needs:

Standard Russian

Most spoken and understood throughout the Russian communities.

Northern Russian (North of Moscow)

The dialects spoken in the Northern region are Novgorod, Olonets, Pomor, Vladimir-Volga and Vologda-Kirov

Southern Russian (South of Moscow)

Southern dialects are spoken mainly in Lipestk, Ryazan, Tula, Oryol, Kaluga, Voronezh, Kursk Oblasts and Tambov but can also be heard in parts of Saratov, Don Voisko Oblasts and Penza.

Central Russian

The dialects spoken in Central Russia have elements of both the Northern and Southern regions and are spoken in Moscow as well as some neighboring areas.

Other areas

Standard Russian is the official language of several countries outside of Russia including Ukraine, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Belarus, Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan. It is also a second language for many people in Finland, Estonia and Latvia among others.

Our Russian linguists aim to not only translate your content correctly, but also to help you connect with your target audience through a clear and mutual understanding of the local language being used. Some important things to consider are who your target audience is, what region(s) they are from and what the nature of your content is.

Knowing the answers to these questions will best determine how formal or informal the translation and communication style should be, along with other relevant factors. Our subtitle translators are highly qualified in addressing these matters.

OUR PROCESS

We handle the entire localization process for your Russian to English or English to Russian subtitling project, providing quality control from start to finish:

Transcription & Translation

After reviewing your file, we will assign your project to the best-qualified subtitle translator with the relevant expertise needed to translate your content.

The translator will create a time-coded transcript, which will serve as a master document/reference that can be used for translations to other languages of your choice should you need them. This is done for both Russian to English and English to Russian translations. Having a transcript is an essential part of the translation process.

The transcript styles most commonly used are either Verbatim (word-for-word) or Readable (lightly edited).

Localization

Once the transcript is prepared, our expert translators will localize your content into the required Russian language for your specific needs and target audience(s).
In addition to localizing the subtitles or closed captions, USA Studios can also localize any graphics or on-screen text that comes with your content either from English to Russian or from Russian to English.

Subtitling

When the translation is finished, the subtitles will then be synchronized to the audio/video, undergoing multiple quality control checks to ensure accurate timing between the text and audio as well as optimal levels of overall quality of your project.

Depending on the local Russian or English language/dialect and the font style used, the length of the translated text and subtitles may vary from the master script. However, rest assured that our subtitle translators take the necessary steps to ensure that your content is not only properly localized, but fits within the allotted timeframe outlined by the time codes Place where it should be updated is in the content.
